At the heart of this story is family, —she and her husband, Hunk, adopted nine children from four different countries and three U.S. states. Her personal battle with Stage 4 ovarian cancer and miraculous survival only deepened her commitment to helping others. Dawn defied the odds, and her miraculous survival continues to inspire those who hear her story. Dawn's remarkable story is not just one of advocacy but of resilience, hope, and the unwavering belief that every child deserves a home.
Born out of her and her husband Hunk’s struggle to adopt, Dawn became a key force in the Adoption Revolution, co-founding organizations, breaking barriers in intercountry adoptions, and challenging the norms that left children trapped in foster care. Her journey took her from the Soviet Union during the Cold War to post-war Vietnam and Sierra Leone, all in the name of securing a better future for children in need.
Tim Younes has dedicated his life to bridging the gap between privilege and adversity, amplifying the voices of those too often overlooked. His career began as a Lobbyist and Public Affairs Director for the Mental Health Association in Pennsylvania, advocating for individuals facing the stigma of mental illness. For 26 years, he led the Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club, a role that—while seemingly unrelated—offered profound insights into identity, belonging, and the legacies that shape our lives. These themes resonate deeply in the adoption journey, where history, family, and purpose intertwine.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Tim’s most transformative experiences have been in service to children in need. From establishing a Nutrition Program in Vietnam to teaching English in rural villages and assisting in dental missions in the Mekong Delta, he has seen firsthand the resilience of the human spirit. As the father of two children adopted from Vietnam, he carries his passion forward as a volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), ensuring that abused and neglected children find the support they deserve. Through his work and this book, Tim brings to light the untold stories of adoption—the heartbreak, the hope, and the unwavering strength of those seeking a place to call home.
